Between January 12 and April 12, 2012, ICANN, the entity in charge of domain names, will accept applications for the registration of the following new types of domain names: “generic” (such as .clothing), “geographical” (such as .mtl) and “trade-marks” (such as .bcf). These new domain name extensions will join the recently introduced .xxx extension and extensions in non-Latin alphabets.
